Expand your Fan Vocabulary with some fun and fresh fast steps from the Calaneya repertoire. Get to know your fan in new exciting ways and discover unusual shapes and pathways. Get ready for exciting variations inspired by FCBD(R), Devi Mamak or Shir i Shakar, such as „Devi’s Back Step“, „Sevillana Shakar“, „Frankenstein Flower“ and others. In order to participate in this workshop and keep up with the material, you should be familiar with the basic dialect steps or have basic experience dancing Flamenco with fan (abánico).

Calaneya Signature Steps and Favorite Transitions in Manton Dialect with Elena
Feel the smooth silk of the manton wrap around your body or toss it dramatically over your head – this workshop is all about new shape and graceful transitions in improvised FCBD(R) inspired dialect with manton. Based on the amazing steps and concepts by The Siren Society, this workshop will take you one step further towards the distinctive Calaneya aesthetic. This includes not only our signature slow and fast steps, but also our favorite transitions – smooth, yet unexpected, dramatic, elegant and incredibly fun!

Get to know our FCBD® inspired Skirt Dialect! Based on Gudrun Herold’s Skirt Dialect, we have developed a plethora of Slow and Fast Steps that are overflowing with drama, elegance and tons of fun! Grab your favorite 25 yard skirt and discover the Calaneya Skirt Dialect. Knowledge of FCBD® Moves Level 1-2 is required.

FCBD® Style Sword Dialect with Christine – in person only!
The curved sword has been a popular and impressive prop in various bellydance styles for many decades. Its shiny blade catches the stage light, enhances the dancer’s beautiful lines and shows off their isolation technique when balanced on their head or other parts of the body. The FCBD® inspired Sword Dialect by Melody Bustillos accentuates the beauty of the original FCBD® steps while allowing the prop enough room to shine (almost literally :)). Christine will share some of her profound knowledge and experience, show you the basic techniques and steps with the sword and practice some balancing. Please bring a headband or turban (cotton or any other non-slippy material) and your own dance-ready sword if you have one. There will be a few extra swords at the studio.

Calaneya Signature Steps and Favorite Combos with Fan and Skirt with Dani
Add even more excitement to your prop game and challenge your multitasking skills! Fan and skirt are a match made in heaven and will not only expand your performance repertoire – this dialect is also super fun! We will start by briefly reviewing some basic fan and skirt steps, talk about adjusting the shapes and pathways in order to accommodate both props and finally put it all together in beautiful combos which can be used both in improv and choreography. You will get the most out of this workshop if you already have some experience with either prop and/or take our fan and skirt workshops on Friday and Saturday.

Flamenco Inspired Choreography with Manton with Elena
Take your manton straight to the stage with this brand-new flamenco inspired choreography, packed with exciting transitions, elegant shapes and dramatic turns! We will go through every combo step by step, clean up our technique and work towards a powerful presentation. You will learn a complete show piece that can either be performed in its entirety or taken apart for your own creative approach. Make it your own and let the fringe soar!
